"So iLL's Torque are a bit like these films that do not make noise when they are released, but become essential once they have been discovered. At first glance, they may not look very different from other climbing shoes. But as soon as we put them on and test them on the wall, we realize that they really have something special to offer."

High performance Vibram XS GRIP climbing rubber is great for long wearing grip, good shape stability, edging, durability, and excellent performance in all around climbing conditions.

The unique width of the heel rubber enables this area to have the perfect balance of rigidity for maintaining solid heel hooks while allowing sensitivity and just enough flex.
The mountain goat shaped midsole is composed of a thermo melting board at the outer edges and runs through the center of the toe box creating stiffness.
The unique single strap velcro closure gives you the freedom to change the direction of tension from ankle to mid-foot area to the base of the forefoot.
Durable and comfortable, the unlined vegan microsuede upper features an elastic integrated tongue and pull tab.
The shape of the toe is ideal for precise footwork. The rubber is thick enough to feel stable but thin enough to maintain sensitivity.

We’ve spent the last two years (and maybe a little longer) concepting, designing, and sampling with Fred Nicole – a true climbing hero and expert in the field.

Non-stop meetings with Fred, including joining him in Switzerland, as well as factory visits during line production and frequent, in-depth communication with our manufacturers were imperative to ensure all the details were there.

It was important to get the technical aspects spot on whether you’re climbing indoors, competing, or out in the elements. Our new shoes models have endured rigorous testing from indoor and outdoor climbers.

I’ve really enjoyed climbing in the Torque so far. The fit is excellent, and once I got used to them—and started trusting them—they performed incredibly well on tiny footholds. I also love the interior fabric; it’s soft, comfortable, and doesn’t snag on my (admittedly gnarly) feet. And the green color is absolutely gorgeous.
The Torques are A++, and I agree with So iLL's Instagram posts that the quality is equal to or better than other leading brands. They feel similar to the LS Katana Laces but are a better all-rounder for sport or bouldering with the extensive toe rubber and excellent heel hooking - and they're significantly less expensive! I primarily boulder and am a V4 climber. I sized my Torques a half size below street shoe size to have my toes jammed up front and tight all around my foot, which I prefer. Def gonna buy the Roam Soft next for a different performing shoe. When tried on, the Torque stiffness vs Roam softness were noticeable, and having both will be awesome. Bought at Movement Englewood in CO.
I had high expectations for the Torque when ordering them, but they still blew me away. In case this helps others with sizing, I have a Low to Medium volume foot, and a Greek foot shape (2nd toe longest). I wore 8.5's with my old 5.10 Anasazi's that were an amazing fit, and sized 8.5 for these (street shoe size 8.5). I prefer a slightly-relaxed fit, but if I ever needed the shoe to perform any better, there's totally room to go half a size down, maybe even a full size. The toe hooking rubber on this shoe is super soft and made the break-in process super easy as my toes weren't pushing into a stiff upper. However, the rubber on the sole is a perfect stiffness and amazing at edging. The Velcro strapping on this shoe is pure genius and I wish more climbing shoes had this feature. The shoes are a little more dark green than teal in person, and beautiful in so many ways. These will be my new favorite shoes for a very, very long time!
Bought a half size down from street.
The torques probably have the most unique feel out of the other shoes made by Soill (stay and roam). The fit for the heel is great. It’s not as narrow feeling as the roams which fit my feet better but they also don’t have any pockets of air. The heel volume is also the deepest out of the other mentioned shoes. The forefoot fits well for wider feet but it may be better if you have a longer big toe. Again my feet fill in the roams much better.
The overall stiffness of the shoes is pretty close to something like the instinct from scarpa but nowhere near as stiff as the free range pro from their previous lineup.
I’ve used these shoes outdoors and they have been amazing on small edges. Due to the pointier toe I’m able to drive more power through smaller foot holds.
Highly recommend these shoes.
Tight at first, but stretched out perfectly. I really enjoy climbing with them, indoor and out.
Fit like a glove right out of the box, these shoes look and feel amazing.
First day using them and I’m stoked for the climbs to come.
This shoe is really great on all levels. Super comfortable, no pain whatsoever. I could probably wear these shoes all day. I ordered my regular tennis shoe size (10), and they fit well. My feet filled out the front half of the shoe perfectly, but the heels didn't fit me as well. The back of the heel (from the top of the heel to about 2 inches down) fits great, but after that (the bottom of the heel) there is some gap. However, none of the climbing shoes I have tried on have had heels that fit me perfectly. I think that my feet are unusually wide with proportionally small heels. The gap in the heel is not a problem for me: the heel rubber is pliable enough to flatten to my heel and I have security doing heel hooks.
The cool thing about these shoes is that they do not sacrifice performance for the sake of comfort. Before my Torques, I owned a pair of La Sportiva Miura VS. The Miuras chew through edging problems, but were fairly uncomfortable for me, even after breaking them in. So far, my Torques have been able to do everything to do with edging that my Miuras could do. Torques have better smearing capabilities. They also have toe hooking rubber, unlike the Miuras, so they should be better in that area as well, although I haven't done any toe hooking yet. Torques seem to be a superior shoes than the Miura VS, and given that I liked the Miuras so much, that is saying something.
I'd say that the green-blue color is darker than in the product picture.
I would definitely recommend these shoes!
Thanks to Gary for letting me try demos on.
Thanks to Susan from the So iLL contact team for all your help.
Loving these shoes! Bought them on a whim for an extra pair, I only wear these now.
The hoof shape is a big help on the inner sole and I love having the adjustable strap.
I ordered these, got them and realized they were the wrong size. Sent them back and second guessed the new size I requested thank you Hannah in customer service for the help. She was able to get me sent the new size I wanted after I threw a wrench in the process. Got the right size and I love them. Highly recommend!!
Love this shoe! Wide toe box so my toes are not crushed or overlapped. Snug but comfortable so I can climb harder.
SoiLL Torque - I just fell in love with them! The best climbing shoes I've ever worn. Super comfortable, yet precise. I've been climbing for 23 years and have had all kinds of models from different brands and I've definitely never come across such a superb model before.
When ordering, I followed the instructions on the manufacturer's website for choosing a size. The description is precise and the shoes fit me perfectly.
You guys are awesome!
You've done an incredible job.
Great aggressive shoe, the rubber is very sticky and I like the one strap a lot. I also like that I can secure it in multiple ways to make my foot feel more secure.
Bought these for my son’s birthday, as his bouldering had advanced to point where his Black Diamonds were holding him back. Fit is perfect and he could immediately tell the difference. He no longer has to bandage his Achilles heel for comfort. Looking to get a pair for myself next!!
So iLL really has something great going with these shoes. I've been climbing for 10 years now and have gone through a decent amount of shoes in that time, but I think these might be my favorite so far. Before the Torque I was rotating between Evolv Shamans and Sportiva Futuras. I wear size 10 Shaman and 41.5 Futura. Size 10 Torque fits PERFECTLY for me. I normally wear 10.5 street shoes. The pointed toe box fits my greek tapered foot shape like they were custom made. The heel literally suction cups to my foot, which makes this by far my favorite heel hooking shoe that I've owned. The stiffness of the last combined with the Vibram XS grip means I can edge and smear almost equally as well. Overall I'm incredibly happy with what So iLL managed to create with the Torque, it truly is a top of the line shoe.
I bought the Torques because I have been climbing for a few months now and was looking for a higher end performance shoe. I bought the La sportiva solutions and they are spectacular shoes but within a month the strap had started to wear through and was about to break so I returned them. The Torques attracted me because they are much better looking than other shoes on the market and looked sturdier. I am very impressed by these shoes they are not as stiff as the solutions as the mid sole and heel are much more pliable but the toe box is extremely stiff and lets you generate power with a more sensitive feel. The shoes are more comfortable and fit me better then other shoes I have owned I wear a size 13 street shoe and ordered a 12 and it fits amazing and I can feel the shoe starting to break in. This shoe does not perform quite as well as a solution mostly because the heel is made of more durable rubber and heel hooks don’t quite grip the same but I find the shoe performs essentially the same as the solutions in other areas. I highly recommend these shoes for someone who’s looking to get into a more performance based shoe but don’t want to have to replace them every few months. These are also a great choice if you have wider feet like I do most asymmetrical shoes cause my toes to sit on top of eachother but these fit snug without bunching up my toes.
I have wide feet and so far I haven’t found any aggressive shoes that accommodate for that until now. I loved my solutions but my toes would stack making it hard to dyno or apply more pressure without discomfort. After putting these on I loved how it felt similar to a solution but my toes could sit normal and curled. I get a ton of power on the toes, heel hooks are solid, and I felt completely comfortable on micro chips. They are built perfectly for smedging. They are hard to get on at first but that’s like any brand new pair of downsized shoes. I did go down half a size to accommodate break in size up. They should fit street size after break in period is over. But even now they fit so perfectly it’s like I’m wearing a compression sock. I know they are not going anywhere, overall besides the negative reviews from the previous line up of shoes. I’m entirely happy with the performance and it’s my favorite color win win. I would buy these again and my buddy wants a pair.
Saw these at the bouldering gym the other day and was in need of a new pair of indoor shoes, first impression while trying them on was a decent fit, I have a wide foot and one foot is also shorter, I don't down size too much for indoor shoes, but I also couldn't get my foot to squeeze into the size down that I would have prefered even with a plastic bag, it felt impossible maybe something todo with the extra rubber on the heel? Regardless I felt quite comfortable and was a nice tight fit, once I got climbing I was impressed with the agressive toe providing plenty of power even on my shorter foot I didn't find it slipping as long as I stayed engaged, the option to cross the strap for extra heel or toe engagement is great found it worked quite well, except the strap is about half and inch too long but no fuss, smearing on volumes in these shoes is great the soft mid sole provides plenty of flexibility to drop or raise your heels and smear away while feeling solid, the heel feels really solid didn't seem to move about at all, the extra rubber on the top of the shoe for toe hooks looks a little thin and looks like it might tear but it grips well, they felt like they broke in in one session at the gym which i havent decided if thats a good or a bad thing tell yet, the only downside I have from these is that the shoe is a tiny bit long maybe a centimetre for my foot, there is also very little sensitivity, but for someone with a wide foot to find Velcro shoes that fits comfortably for volume climbing in the gym this is fine. I also tried these shoes on some sandstone outdoors they performed just aswell as they did in the gym, possibly a great all rounder shoe, time will tell.
I didn't know what a proper fitting shoe felt like until I tried these. It feels as though they were made specifically for my feet.
Standing on small edges is EFFORTLESS, I have never felt more comfortable on the wall.
These shoes are just plain fun! They fit like a glove; hugging my foot with love and care. They are stiffer than the Street but I’m still aware of my foot placement making slips nonexistent. What else.. Beautiful color and can’t wait for tomorrow’s sesh! 🤙
They are so comfortable and feel broken in after wearing it only once. Performed so well and traction allowed for little slippage. The sleek look has gotten a lot of compliments and I love the deep green color. 100% recommend for any intermediate climber!
Sizing is great. I ordered my street shoe size of 10.5, and my toes are slightly curled, but not uncomfortable. I really love the point on these shoes, helps me really focus on toe placement. The downturn is present, but not too aggressive so I .happy using these on all types of climbs.
The torques are an incredible add to the growing collection of solid climbing shoes for So iLL! Right out of the box, these shoes have the classic So iLL comfort with the sizing being similar to my street shoe size. Many shoes give me problems with toe box to heel size ratio but this is the first climbing shoe that nailed it! A lot of heels have a spongy side but these fit so well on the heel that there was zero slide or give. The vibram rubber provides dependable grip/friction on the wall and the multi-directional Velcro strap allowed me to fit the show in multiple ways for varying climbs. Overall, I love this shoe and I am excited about the new direction they are taking with their climbing shoes!
