001 - Ladue House

So iLL x DreamWall

NOTES FROM THE BUILD:

The Ladue house was a unique project. It was actually our first residential project in the U.S. and a cool one at that. It was small compared to commercial gym construction, however, nothing was small in terms of preparation, design and the quality of the install. This five million dollar home asked for the best and we loved meeting their expectations.

The aesthetic of the climbing walls had to blend seamlessly into the modern design of the housing structure. We worked with the architect and general contractor of the home to meet these goals.

Our director of design, Amy, visited the job site for a custom match of Pantone colors for the climbing wall. The house had special colors made for the wood and steel structure, which required us to provide a perfect match as well.

The owner of this gorgeous home had been climbing 30 years and commissioned this wall to be designed/built to introduce his grandchildren to the sport. He wanted to share the joy of climbing with his kids and their kids.

Sometimes, smaller projects are even more detail oriented. The climbing walls had to blend with all the other high end, curated materials in the house.

Once the panels were ready, Dreamwall shipped them via air mail, packing everything flat (including the steel) on a single oversized pallet.

The steel structure posed a challenge because of the tight fit between the custom wooden ceiling and modern metal siding. We designed and installed around light fixtures, fans, electrical outlets, can lights, doors, windows and other architectural features of the home.

Ivo flew in from Europe and installed the wall, personally. As the first residential project in the US, we were able to see his commitment to his craft. Ivo was present for every step and every process. He was there installing the climbing wall in the snow, in 20 degree weather. We’re committed to getting it right.
