I've tried many brands over the last decade, and I'm completely hooked on these climbing shoes. The Free Range Pro feels broken in right out of the box, edges well, and has superior rubber grip on both plastic and real rock. The footbox is well protected for toe hooks and quite stiff, providing good edging support. Even with separated forefoot and heel outsole (an improvement from the Free Range shoe), I still find that my heel starts to slip out of the shoe on intense heel hooks, especially on overhanging routes. There is only one strap, and the problem would most likely be solved with two. While not the best for heel hooking, it's amazing in every other way.
I already had become obsessed with my New Zero Pros and was interested in a similar shoe that was a little stiffer. The Free Range Pro fits the bill perfectly. They are mostly broken in at this point and are almost as comfortable as the Zeros, I suspect they will be in a month or two. They have already softened up to the point that they are sensitive enough but not super soft like the zeros. Both shoes have the best fitting and gripping heel I've ever tried. I've experimented with a lot of shoes (muria vs, solutions, pretty much every scarpa shoe) and these are far and above the best fitting and performing. I have had a little more time on the Zeros at this point (about 8 months) and they are still going strong.
This model is my favorite daily. I have the previous in lime green too and new version largely feels the same. Soill stiff is still relatively soft. This buckle style is nice for quick on and off. I have a slightly wide foot (solid e in men's widths) but this shoe fits me well at a half or fill size up depending on how tight. Heel cup fits pretty snug despite not having any elastic around the ankle, I can still do casual heel hooks even without velcroing the buckle down. Super comfy. Also gotta love a vegan shoe. 5 stars.
They are a perfect combination between comfort and great quality. The hook and the heel hook and amazing and although they look very asymmetric they are super comfortable.
I love them!
These shoes were my first aggressive wear. It took no time for me to get adjusted to them and they provided a huge advantage in cave and overhang climbing. Never felt better control with my footwork until I climbed with these shoes. I would recommend these to anyone who wants to move into a more aggressive shoe.
